Mike O'Brien

Michael O’Brien was born on August 6, 1942 in Des Moines. He passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at his home in Altoona.

Mike lived for sports. His early years were spent racing with his buddies and he loved the Iowa Hawkeyes. His life revolved around family. Anything any of his grandchildren did, he supported. Mike and his wife, Cecilia’s, vacations were spent with their grandchildren. He was there for them 24/7.

Mike is survived by his wife, Cecilia O’Brien; his daughters, Michelle (Kevin) Eggleston, Kristine (Blake) Penquite and Katherine (Jerry) Patterson; his grandchildren, Samantha Petersen, Annie Penquite, Nathan Eggleston, Abby Penquite, Rachel Eggleston and Ami Penquite; and his special little friend, Madison Oppelt. He is preceded in death by his parents, Danny and Margaret O’Brien; and his first wife, Margarete O’Brien.

Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. until the service time on Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011 at All Saints Catholic Church in Des Moines, followed by cremation.
