Robert A. Powers

Robert A. Powers, 89, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away on January 14, 2011. He was born on December 14, 1921, in Lyle, Washington, and moved to Florida in 2007. “Bob” was formerly from Des Moines, Iowa, where he lived most of his life.

Bob was a World War II veteran who proudly served in the Army Air Corps for four years. He worked in the service industry as an engineer for Standard Register Co. for 26 years before retiring. Bob was an avid fisherman, loved to travel with Pauline, and loved his grandchildren. He was a member of College Avenue Christian Church in Des Moines, Iowa.

He is survived by his loving family including his wife of 66 years, Pauline Lucille Powers; a sister, Maxine (Spencer) Harrington of Springfield, Oregon; two sons: Stephen (Charlotte) Powers of Coralville, Iowa, and Russell (Nancy) Powers of Punta Gorda, Florida; and his daughter, Janis Kemper of Punta Gorda, Florida; ten grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 20 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 21. A luncheon will be held for family and friends at Walnut Creek Community Church, 900 64th Street in Windsor Heights, ,following the graveside service.
