Elizabeth Lawrence Daniels

Elizabeth Lawrence Daniels, 82, departed this life on Monday, January 10, 2011, at Parkridge Nursing and Rehabilitation in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, January 15, 2011, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service.

Elizabeth was born on October 11, 1928 to Shadrick and Pansy (Parker) Gross in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a beautician and proprietor of Liz’s Beauty Salon for several years before working for the State of Iowa. She was a member of Union Baptist Church. Prior to Elizabeth’s illness, she was an active member of Daughters of Eastern Star, Roadrunner Bowling League and Jack and Jill of America. Elizabeth also enjoyed camping and fishing with family and friends while traveling in her RV.

Elizabeth was united in marriage to Coleman F. Lawrence on January 13, 1945, and from that union was blessed with six children: four daughters and two sons, and later in her life to Donald Daniels.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Coleman Lawrence and Donald Daniels; daughter, Sylvia Knox; sisters, Esther Taylor and Fragelia Broome; and brother, Elmer Gross.

She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Sheila L. Traylor of Kansas City, Kansas, Sharon L. Deering of Goodyear, Arizona and Sandra L. McHugh of St. Louis, Missouri; two sons, Coleman F. (Janet) Lawrence, Jr. of Pleasant Hill, Iowa and Carlton E. (Coya) Lawrence of Hudson, Wisconsin; two brothers, Shadrick P. (Sara) Gross, Jr. of Sacramento, California and Mack P. (Sandra) Lyles, Jr. of Indianola, Iowa; two sisters, Claudette B. Brooks of Rantoul, Illinois and Cornelia A. Brown of Munster, Indiana; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
