Barbara Whitson

Barbara Whitson, 62, passed away January 9, 2011, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. She was born March 18, 1948, in Boone, IA.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Bruce of West Des Moines; son, Brett (Teresa) Whitson of Lincoln, NE; daughter, Becky (Toby) Schmidt of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Brennen Oliverius of Valparaiso, NE, Taylor Whitson of Lincoln, NE, and Hunter, Gunner and Grayson Schmidt of West Des Moines; step-granddaughter, Staci Schmidt of Glendale, AZ; mother, Ann Neese of Stratford; brothers, Sid (Kim) Peterson of Overland Park, KS and Nolan (Kelli) Peterson of Stratford, IA; mother-in-law, Maye (Lyle) Wahman of Webster city, IA; brother-in-law, Mark Whitson; sister-in-law, Pam Whitson; and many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, William Peterson and step-father, Leo Neese.

Barb was a devoted mom and wife. She was the ultimate grandma and a dear friend to many.

Memorial services will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
