Service Details

Bernard F. Nicholson, 85, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at his home following a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service time on Saturday.

Bernard was born September 22, 1925, in Clarke County, Iowa, to L. Frank and Mamie (Morris) Nicholson. He graduated from LeRoy School in 1943. He served in the Army during WW II. Bernard worked and retired from Bookey Pack/Swift Meat Packing and was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge #592.

Bernard was an avid sports fan. He played fast pitch softball, was a Highland Park little league coach and LOVED golf. He enjoyed wintering in Arizona.

Bernard is survived by his children, Sandy Nicholson, David (Debbie) Nicholson, Randy (Barb) Nicholson; step-children, Diana (Paul) Hamil, Gary Seemann, Linda (David) Lee, Wanda (Jerry) Lenz; loving companion, Maxine Elmore; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Carl (Pauline) Nicholson; and sisters, Deloris (Wayne) Collins, and Nancy (Bob) Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents, L. Frank and Mamie Nicholson; wives, Betty and Imogene; sister-in-law, Donna Nicholson and nephew, Curt Moore.
