Martin V. Thornton

Martin V. Thornton, 64, lost his battle with cancer on Friday, December 31, 2010, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.

Martin was born July 9, 1946, in Des Moines to Deloris (Hesser) and Jacob Thornton. He graduated from North High School. He was employed at Ford Implement Company, Jacobsen Warehouse, and most recently Prairie Meadows. Martin enjoyed gardening and cheering on the Vikings.

Martin is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra; daughter, Stacey Thornton; brother, Clifford (Cathy) Thornton; sisters, LaVay (David) Fisher and Helen Anderson; and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. He is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Steven Anderson.
