Maradell Lydia Mahler, 82, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, with a visitation from 10 to 11a.m. Burial will follow at Resthaven.
Maradell was born May 20, 1928, to Melitta and Zachariah Blanchard in Dedham, IA. She is survived by her children, Linda Wilson, Everett (Sherry) Mahler, Janell Mahler and Randy Mahler; her grandchildren, Laura Thompson, Matt Wilson and Chris (Jenny) Mahler; her great grandchildren, Colton Thompson, Logan Thompson, Austen Potter, Tyler Mahler and Katie Mahler; her sister, Verneva (Kenny) Stevens; and her brother, Derwyn (Betty) Blanchard. She is preceded in death by her husband, Revilo Mahler and her grandson, Denny Wilson.

My Dear Aunt Maradell,
You were a beautiful lady. I remember playing cards at your house over by 2nd Avenue. You always had a kiss, hug and told me you loved me. You will be missed. One summer, you visited us for an extended period. You and I had races to see who could guess the Wheel of Fortune puzzle first. I won a few - even though you one the majority. Way to challenge me!
You were an inspiration. No matter how many times trials came to your life, you looked to the Lord and used them to your betterment. One of these was teaching yourself lipreading. You did that so well that at times I couldn't even tell that you were mostly deaf. Amazing.
One of my best memories was seeing you come to my graduation. What a wonderful gift! You had had knee surgery on both knees a few weeks earlier, couldn't use pain killers and made the 2-1/2 hour journey to our house for my reception. You were on crutches and the trip took you over 3-1/2 hours, but you did it for me! What a wonderful expression of love.
Thanks for being a special person in my life! You will be missed and I love you so. Give Jesus a hug and enjoy your first Christmas in Heaven with him!

The Good Lord only takes the best to be by his side. Although we were not ready to let her go, he took her hand and led her with him to a place where Angels walk freely. He knew she was suffering and wanted to take her home. I knew Maradell just a short time, yet from the first time i met her I could feel the warmth of her soul as she hugged me or gave me a kiss and told me she loved me. She made me feel like i was one of her own children. Now, The good Lord will be able to feel just what Maradell was, An Angel.
When her Family meet her again in Heaven, we will need her guidance to help us through.
I will always love you, Maradell.. Save room for us up there until God takes our hands.

We Love you very much Great Grandma and miss you a lot!! I guess God wanted you to spend Christmas with him. Now you will be able to hear,walk and see and have no pain. We won't say good bye but only so long for now as we will see you again someday in heaven.
