Evelyn Sophronia Gaster, 87, peacefully went home on Tuesday, December 21, at The Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee. She spent her final days surrounded by loved ones, including her only daughter Cindy (John) Tometich of Johnston and four grandchildren: Melissa (John) Ulrickson of Ankeny and their four boys – Sam, Jack, Max, and Frank; Elizabeth (Scott) Behrens of Kansas City and their two girls - Evelyn and Annabelle; Ryan Tometich of Johnston; and Mary (Jonathan) Kaisand of Ames.
Evelyn was raised at the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home, spending time whenever she could with her beloved parents and siblings. After attending beauty school, she moved to Iowa, worked as a beauty operator, and married Harold Gaster in May 1948. Consistently putting the needs of others before her own, she exemplified this Scripture: “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus, who…made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant.” She loved to volunteer at her church, serve coffee to a daily houseful of visitors, and spend many of her days loving on her family.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 26 at Foster’s Funeral Home in Webster City, Iowa from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. with refreshments being served. A Memorial Service will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, in West Des Moines on Monday, December 27 at 10:00 a.m., with brunch to follow.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Agape Pregnancy Center in Des Moines.

Cindy, John and family - We were saddened when we learned of your mother's and grandmother's death. We know how special she was to all of you. When we told Jennifer that Liz's grandma had died, she responded, "Grandma Evelyn?" She remembered the many times she had been in your home when "Grandma Evelyn" was there. This must be difficult for all of you. Take comfort in one another and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear family and loved ones: I'm Donnaloy that lead the Gospel Jam at the church in Otho/Kalo where your mother/grandmother so enjoyed coming. The grand daughter and husband sang a few times and what beautiful voices.
Just remember to continue singing so grandma will continue to hear you as she not only enjoyed your music but enjoyed being near you and the faimily.
I have been having some health issues and have thought of Evelyn many times recently and never failed asking about her when I would see her friend. She was not only fun to be around but a pleasure. I personally will miss her but as when any of my friends pass - I wouldn't wish them back as they are truely the lucky ones and have gone on to their heavenly home as we all look forward to someday when our turn comes.
My heart goes out to you her family just know others share in your grief.

John, Cindy, and family,
Brenda and I are so sorry for your loss. You have a wonderful family and I know that you will find strength in each other and in the Lord during this difficult time.
