Service Details

Jim died surrounded by his loved ones at the Veteran’s Hospital in Des Moines. He graduated from Dowling High School in 1955 and enlisted in the Marine Corps. where he served proudly. He worked for A.A. Schneiderhaun, Inc. and retired from Mid-States Distributors. He then started a second career with Lewis System.

Jim was a devote Catholic and a member of the Basilica of St. John’s. He worked to maintain a healthy lifestyle and was a member of Family Fitness Center. Jim mastered the game of Black Jack and enjoyed playing at the boat in Osceola and Prairie Meadows. Jim was also a weekly lotto player, playing the same numbers since the lotto has started. Jim was also an avid bowler and belonged to various leagues over the years at Val Lanes, and participated in many state tournaments. He also enjoyed fishing trips with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Pat; brothers, Joe (Ruth), Bill (Dolores); sons, John (Jan), Jamie (Toni); daughters, Linda Buck and Debbie Lakers; grandchildren, Heather, Cory, Megan, Stacey, Nichole, Michael and Jesse; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, on Sunday, December 26, 2010, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be at the Basilica of St. John's on Monday, December 27, 2010, at 10:00 a.m.
