Service Details

Dorothy Marlene Meehan, 76, passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2010, at Kavanagh House Hospice in Des Moines, IA after a brave battle with lung cancer. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. with an 8 p.m. Rosary, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 22 at 1 p.m., at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3663 66th Street in Urbandale, IA. A memorial service will take place in Marcus on Monday, December 27, 2010, at Holy Name Catholic Church with burial following at Holy Name Cemetery.

Marlene was born on August 5, 1934, in Marcus, Iowa to J. Andrew and M. Lenora Meehan. She was one of four children. Marlene graduated from Holy Name Catholic School in 1952. For most of her career she worked in accounting and payroll for the Waldinger Corporation in Des Moines. She was an active lady and enjoyed many activities and spending time with her friends. She loved to golf, snow ski in Colorado and playing Bridge. She was an active member in her church in the Alter and Rosary Society, Afternoon Bridge group and attending mass daily. Marlene was also a volunteer at Mercy Hospital and was a member of the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her brother, Ken (Lorraine) Meehan of West Des Moines, IA; sister, Marcia (Dean) Drefke of Marcus, IA; nieces and nephews , Lynn (Pat) Murray of Cresco, IA, Mike (Deb) Meehan of Shawnee Mission, KS, Kathy (Billy) Bryant of West Des Moines, Lori King of West Des Moines, IA, Bill Meehan of Shoreline, WA, Tom (Margie) Meehan of Brooklyn, NY, Maureen (Larry) Nissen of Moville, IA, Dan Drefke of Ankeny, IA; great-nieces and nephews, Meredith Murray of Cresco, IA, Katie Meehan of Shawnee Mission, KS, Robert Gray of Brooklyn, NY, Jessica, Nicholas and Emily King of Des Moines, IA, Bobby Meehan of Des Moines, IA, Jaci and Matthew Nissen of Moville, IA.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jim Meehan; and nephew, Bob Meehan.
