Service Details

Deborah Thevenot, 55, died December 19, 2010, at Taylor House after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer.

Deborah was born June 22, 1955, in Des Moines to Keith E. and Peggy Willcoxson, Jr. At the age of 4, the family moved to Jacksonville, FL. After marrying Tony Mello, she lived in San Antonio, TX, Greenville, SC, and Columbus, GA, before returning to Des Moines. No children were born to this union.

Most of her working life was spent in the clerical/data entry field. She especially enjoyed the several years she was employed at U.S. West, where her mom had worked for over 30 years. After many years of data entry, a work injury forced her into disability retirement.

Her greatest joy was her children, which included her three cats. Anything outdoors she loved; camping, fishing, boating, gardening and swimming. Her family was most important in her life.

Debbie was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, and her only brother, Keith Willcoxson III and his wife Dana Willcoxson. She is survived by her husband and soulmate, Paul, the greatest man on earth. Debbie is also survived by her sons, Nathan (Valerie Skrdlant) Wittenstein and Lucas Thevenot. Thanks to her awesome medical team, Dr. Shreck, Tammy, Katie and Carissa, Debbie was able to meet her first grandson, Harrison Wittenstein, born September 3, 2010, for which she was very grateful. Also surviving are her nieces, Candace Guerrero and Courtney Willcoxson, her great-nieces and nephews, and her three furry ones which brought her joy and laughter, Rocky, Shady, and Bootsy.

As a recovering alcoholic, Debbie was very proud of her over two years of ongoing sobriety, as well as her husband's.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private family burial will take place at Masonic Cemetery.
