Doris A. Miller, 75, died, Saturday, December 18, 2010, at Senior Suites of Urbandale. She was born December 1, 1935, to Leonard and Ruth James in Redfield, Iowa. She graduated from Washington Township Consolidated Schools in Minburn, Iowa in 1953.

Doris was baptized at Washington Chapel Church of Christ and married her husband, George, there on November 22, 1953. She was presently an active member of First Church of Christ in Ankeny. Doris taught sign language through Area 11 for several years and was active with the PTA at Kirkwood Elementary. As an adult, she worked at Banker’s Trust and as a church secretary for West Side Church of Christ and Central Lutheran Church. She really enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts.

Doris is survived by son, Dennis (Diana) Miller; daughters, Cynthia (Karl) Overton; Kimberly (Vernon) Mumford, and Karla Miller; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Carol Piatt and Dean (Shirley) James; sister-in-law, Betty James; and a host of other family and beloved friends. Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Ruth (Snyder) James; husband, George W. Miller; and brother, L. LaVerne James.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 23, 2010, at First Church of Christ, 310 NW Ash Drive, Ankeny, with burial at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Minburn, Iowa. Friends may visit with family from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
