Barbara Hunter, 81, passed away at Iowa Lutheran Hospital on Friday, December 17, 2010. She was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on November 23, 1929, to Jude (Julius) and Mabel Seaburg. She married Donald Harold Broich in 1947 and they had four sons together. Barbara and Donald lived in Iowa, Ohio, and Illinois. Barbara returned to Iowa following Donald’s death in 1990. Five years later, Barbara met Maury (Maurice) Hunter. They were married on December 23, 1995.
Barbara was a member of the Highland Park Christian Church. She always loved working with people. Barbara loved her church family, her family vacation travels, her “noisy, ornery boys” and her dogs.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Maury Hunter; her sons, Rick, Steve, John and Tim; her stepchildren, Craig Hunter and Karen Ellison.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at Highland Park Christian Church at 12 p.m., with a visitation for one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Eskimo Dog Rescue and Sanctuary of Iowa in memory of Barbara: 2567 Kennedy Street, St. Charles, IA 50263.

Bobby and I are parents of Travis Clarkson who lives next door to Maury and Barbara at 4100 Columbia. We talked to Barbara on many occasions over the fence. We both love dogs as we have two, Fonzie (Trav's dog) and Maxie. She was a nice lady. If there is anything we can do, please let us know.

So sorry to hear about your loss, I know we and Steve will miss Barb greatly. She has always been a great advocate for Steve.

The Rainbow Bridge has another angerl to help all of our beloved pets wait for us, and to go on with Barb! She was a dedicated and loving rescuer, transporter, and we will all miss her.

The world of Animal Rescue is a much darker place now that the Light that Barb gave off is gone. We are truly sorry for the loss of this wonderful special Lady. We will miss her terribly.
