Service Details
Yolanda Rae Knowles, 56, passed away on December 17, 2010. Services will be at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 21 from 5 to 7 p.m. and the funeral service on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Yolanda was born on April 14, 1954, to Darlene (Buck) and Phillip McKee in Princeton, MO. She graduated from Perry High School in 1972 and worked for the State of Iowa as an Information Technology Specialist for 35 years. Yolanda was a sports fan and followed Iowa State Women’s Basketball and the Chicago Cubs. She enjoyed quilting, reading, collecting Longaberger baskets, crafting and reading. The Bible was a close companion. In addition, she loved animals and had many pets. George and Yolanda also enjoyed traveling; taking a cruise to Bermuda, trips to Colorado and Kansas City.
Left to cherish Yolanda’s memory are; her husband of 28 plus years, George; her parents, Darlene and Phil McKee; daughter, Stacie (Brett) Lester; brother, Ron (Rita) McKee; grandson, Austin Lester; and niece Brennan McKee.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Bradley Lair and the MOHA Staff and Dr. Richard Deming for the wonderful care they have provided to Yolanda over the past 8 years during her courageous battle with cancer.

Yolanda was one of the first people I worked with in my career at Von Maur. She was always a source of inspiriation and guidance to me. I will miss her very much. My thoughs are with you all at this time.

Yolanda was the portrait of a beautiful, strong, and, courageous, caring woman. She will be missed and her life celebrated by many. I am thinking about you this holiday season.

Our sincere sympathy goes out to the Knowles/McKee family today as I am sure it has been a hard day on everyone. God may call us home at his time but he made us to have feelings and to know love so we can not help but miss a loved one as they pass on. May you find peace and strength in your faith and each other as the days pass.

Peace Be With Yolanda's family during this time of sadness.
Yolanda cherished her family. She was a great friend and we
had many laughs together. We shared April as our birthday
month and worked together for a few years in ITE. Yolanda
was truly a caring and wonderful person. She will be missed
by everyone who knew her. She and I were both Cyclone Fans
and we had fun talking about sports and the Cyclones. My
heart is lighter today knowing that Yolanda is now peaceful.
