Richard D. Warming, 77, died at Iowa Methodist Hospital on Monday, December 13, 2010, after a short battle with cancer. He was born August 8, 1933 to Christian and Elfrieda Warming in Burlington, Iowa.

Richard graduated from Burlington High School, served in the Army during the Korean War, and then earned his law degree from Drake University.

Richard retired as Chief Investment Officer from Farm Bureau Financial Services in 1998 after 39 years of service. He was a very active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Des Moines Choral Society. He also served on the Board of Directors for the St. John’s Lutheran Foundation. Richard filled his life with reading, cooking, traveling, singing, and supporting the Iowa State Cyclones. He truly enjoyed his retirement by spending his summers at Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends.

Richard is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jacqueline Warming; children, John (Kristen) Warming, Katherine Warming, Matthew (Cheryl) Warming, Todd (Sue Tew) Warming, and Christine (Reid) Schaefer; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild, with one on the way; sisters, Marian (Ed) Tiedemann and Rheda (Jon) Schultz; many cousins in Denmark; and a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 20, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 600 6th Avenue, Des Moines. A memorial visitation will be held 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Per his request, his body has been cremated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Foundation, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Des Moines Choral Society, or the American Cancer Society.
