Richard D. Warming, 77, died at Iowa Methodist Hospital on Monday, December 13, 2010, after a short battle with cancer. He was born August 8, 1933 to Christian and Elfrieda Warming in Burlington, Iowa.
Richard graduated from Burlington High School, served in the Army during the Korean War, and then earned his law degree from Drake University.
Richard retired as Chief Investment Officer from Farm Bureau Financial Services in 1998 after 39 years of service. He was a very active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Des Moines Choral Society. He also served on the Board of Directors for the St. John’s Lutheran Foundation. Richard filled his life with reading, cooking, traveling, singing, and supporting the Iowa State Cyclones. He truly enjoyed his retirement by spending his summers at Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends.
Richard is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jacqueline Warming; children, John (Kristen) Warming, Katherine Warming, Matthew (Cheryl) Warming, Todd (Sue Tew) Warming, and Christine (Reid) Schaefer; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild, with one on the way; sisters, Marian (Ed) Tiedemann and Rheda (Jon) Schultz; many cousins in Denmark; and a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 20, 2010, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 600 6th Avenue, Des Moines. A memorial visitation will be held 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Per his request, his body has been cremated.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Foundation, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Des Moines Choral Society, or the American Cancer Society.

I want to express my sympathy for your loss. I knew Richard as a Farm Bureau Insurance agent. In approximately 1978 I was fortunate enough to be one of the winners in the brass hat contest. That contest gave us an opportunity to be an executive for a day and I chose to be Chief Investment Officer. I sat at Richard's desk and read the Wall Street Journal and some other financial documents but they never really let me make any financial decisions, I wonder why?
After that we ate dinner at the Ruan Center with all of the Farm Bureau Office Brass. That night we went to a Drake Basketball game and I got to sit by Paul Seidenburg which was quite an experience for a career agent of only a few years.
I enjoyed that experience and Richard helped me to have a successful career with Farm Bureau. I'm still with Farm Bureau now as a Crop Specialist after 35 years.

Jackie Warming
Jackie, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. I enjoyed the monthly luncheons with Dick and other members of the FB group. When able to attend, Dick always provided us with his unique and, often humorous, perspective on the topic of discussion. He will be greatly missed.

We are so sorry to hear of Mr. Warming's passing. Jeff and I have many memories of the time your dad spent driving the YMCA Bellringer's bus and the time he spent chaperoning all of us kids.

Jackie, we offer I deepest sympathy. I know it is a terrible shock to you and the family, but I think someone was looking out for Dick and it went quickly and it is done with........no more back and forth to the hospital and not being yourself anymore. Patience is very short for all in that situation so count your blessings, it ended quickly and he is now resting peacefully.
