Hazel A. Jordan

Service Details

On Tuesday, December 7, 2010, Hazel Anna Jordan, 97, went to dance with her husband Raymond, whom she had been longing to see since he was taken from her 33 years ago. She left this life as she lived it, on her own terms. Fiercely independent until the last moment, Hazel gracefully made the decision to move onto the next stage of her life.

Hazel came into this world on November 16, 1913, to Cora Lena and James Leslie Ward. A proud graduate of East High School ('31), she married her soulmate and they raised three daughters. She was very involved in her community and Staves United Methodist Church. She was happiest when baking pies, quilting or doing for others. In her later years she found joy in the camaraderie of her friends in the water aerobics class at the Altoona Campus, which she attended four times weekly.

Cherishing her memory are her three siblings, Ralph (Marge) Ward, Neva Ward and James Leslie II (Doris) Ward; daughters Judith (James) Wheeler, Gail Hollis and Laurie (Curtis) Linhart; grandchildren Leslie (Brian) Anstedt, James Wheeler, Robert Kennard II, Ann (Dwayne) Davis, Andrew Lawrence; three great granddaughters and one great-great grandson. Patiently awaiting her arrival in Heaven are her parents and husband.

A celebration of her life will begin with visitation at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, from 3 to 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Staves United Methodist Church on Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. Her final resting place will be beside the love of her life at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Altoona Campus Aquatics Program, Staves United Methodist College Scholarship Program or East High Scholarship Fund.

Her larger than life spirit and spunk will be greatly missed.
May we all live up to the 'service to others' example she set everyday of her life.
