Service Details

Sue Anne Albright, 70, formerly of Shawano, WI, passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA. Services will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Avenue in West Des Moines, IA. A visitation will be held in the Gathering Space at 3:00 p.m., followed by a rosary in the church at 3:45 p.m. and the funeral mass at 4:30 p.m.

Sue was born in Green Bay, WI on June 29, 1940 to Leona (Schneider) and Orlen Miller. She attended Annunciation Grade School, followed by St. Joseph’s Academy High School in Green Bay. She then went on to St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Madison, WI, where she became a nurse. She met her husband John in Madison, and they were united in marriage on October 7, 1961 at Annunciation Church in Green Bay. They made their home in various cities, including Madison, WI; Ajo, AZ; Shawano, WI; and most recently in Clive, IA in September of 2009.

Sue was a nurturing caregiver and a devoted mother. She raised four children, delighted in spending time with her grandchildren, and cared for her husband as his health declined. Sue was a nature lover, and enjoyed watching birds and other wildlife at her home near the woods and water. Her family spent much time camping, skiing, and visiting with extended family. Sue loved her Catholic faith and since nursing school was a life member of the Legion of Mary. She was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church in Shawano, where she served on the parish council and was a member of the Catholic women’s club. Sue also served on the board of Hospice in Shawano. Growing up in Green Bay, she was also a big Packer fan and rarely missed a game.

Cherishing her memory are her sons, John (Michelle) of Richmond, VA, Joe (Brenda) of Coralville, IA, Bill (Hong) of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Julie (Mitch) Erickson of West Des Moines, IA; grandchildren, Julian, Jacob, Ashley, Erica, Emily, Lizzy, John and Andrew; sisters-in-law, Lois Albright of Saline, MI and Nancy Albright-Fliess of Racine, WI; uncle, Robert Schneider of Green Bay, WI; aunts, Bev Schneider of Green Bay, WI, Mary “Sis” Selberg of Marshfield, WI, Rosanne Schneider of Concord, CA; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, John; and brother, Richard Miller.
