Charles “Tom” Overton, 66, passed away December 5, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center.
Tom was born December 19, 1943, in Des Moines to Paul and Mildred (Mundy) Overton. He was a warehouse manager for Zenith Distribution for 24 years and retired in 2005 from Johnson & Sons Service Station where he had worked for over 10 years. He was an avid sports fan, loved to play and coach softball and was a devoted Cubs fan.
Tom is survived by his wife of 47 years, Vivian: children Rick (Mary) Overton, Debbie Logan, Tammy Cooklin, Judy (Kenneth) Summers and Cathy Fisher; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Donna Jean Overton; and grandson, Joshua Dean Davenport.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Cathy and family,
Sorry I wasn't able to stop by the funeral home to express my condolensces. I know it's been a long time, but I wanted you to know that I remember your dad. The whole family was very kind to me back in the day when I was just punk kid. I think back fondly to a little dance party we had at the house in Oak Park. I just wanted you all to know I'm very sorry for your loss. May peace be with all of you.

Vivian, Cathy, and Family -
I am so sorry to hear about Tom's passing and want you to know that your entire family are in my thoughts and prayers now and in the coming days and weeks! I cannot imagine not seeing Tom in the pick-up line after school or driving around Urbandale! He was a wonderful guy with a great sense of humor and I will miss (yet remember fondly) the teasing that he and I used to do whenever we saw each other! Heaven gained a great guy with a great sense of humor...and I consider myself lucky to have gotten to know him over the past four years!
