Robert "Bob" Gilliam

Robert “Bob” Gilliam, 71, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2010. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. A visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Bob was born July 24, 1939, to Isabel and Jacob Gilliam. He worked as a tire builder for Firestone. Bob was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God and Local #310 United Rubberworkers. He was a baseball coach for the South Des Moines Little League and was a track and basketball coach for St. Anthony’s. He enjoyed watching NASCAR with his sons and was a fan of the CUBS. He loved his dogs and especially loved spending time with his grandkids.

Bob is survived by his wife, Marlene; children Robert (Faith) Gilliam, Jodi Niederwimmer, Michael (Monica) Gilliam, Jacob Gilliam, Gerald (Linda) Durbin, Raymond (Debbie) Hill, Ted Hill; brother, Larry (Mary) Gilliam; 15 grandchildren, seven with one on the way great grandkids and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John.
