Lorraine M. Peterson

Lorraine M. Peterson, 84, passed away November 30, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Pkwy followed by burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Lorraine was a fireball of a woman. She had many talents, including sewing crocheting, crafts of all kinds. Her projects were admired by all who knew her. You mention "thrifting" and Lorraine was ready to go. On occasion she would incorporate her treasurers into her many projects. Her love of sports, and the state of Iowa found her with the appropriate sweatshirt to bring home a victory for her team on any given game day. Earlier in life she enjoyed dancing. She and her favorite beau (Pete) could be found dancing to a favorite love song by "Old Blue Eyes."

Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Julie Peterson and Karen Ratcliff; brother, Richard Kopp; nephews, Tom and Mike Kopp; grandson, Kelly Ratcliff; and half-siblings, Carolyn Lack of St. Joseph, MO, Mayre Menard of Lincoln, NE. Norma Robbins of Osh Kosh, WI, Lawrence (Marcia) Kopp of Minneapolis, MN, Kalcie (Connie) Kopp of Fort Dodge, IA, Patricia (Donald) Koch of DeForest, WI and Teresa (Gary) Wolfe, Fort Dodge, IA; Lorraine had many nieces and nephews that loved her as well. She was preceded in death by her father, Kalcie Kopp; mother, Lula Wright; step-mother, Margaret Kopp; and husband, Virgil C. Peterson.
