Jack Freel, 83, died Saturday, November 27, 2010, at his home in Des Moines. He was born August 4, 1927, to Harry and Goldia Freel.

Jack graduated from Runnells High School and joined the Navy. He married Betty Tingley in 1949 and they had two children, Randy and Shaunda. Jack and Betty were married for 58 years and lived in the same home for over 40 years where they were surrounded by wonderful neighbors.

He volunteered for more than ten years with the Saylor Township Fire Department and also served as Fire Chief. Jack worked for Thermogas for 40 years. He loved spending three weeks with his family in Ely, MN every year and enjoyed fishing and water skiing.

Jack is survived by his son, Randy and his wife, Janet; daughter, Shaunda and her husband, Chad Leiffert; grandchildren, Amanda Freel, Mark and Matthew Leiffert; brothers, Ray, Bill, Earl and David Freel; sisters, Ruth Marks, Elsie Wade, Mary Ann Freel and Martha McClure. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; brothers, Rex, Jim, Larry and Bob; and sister, Betty Deer.

Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010, at Canfield Cemetery in Ivy, Iowa. Family will visit with friends from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
