Gloria Barquist

Gloria S. Barquist, 78, of Clive, IA, died suddenly at home Saturday, November 27, 2010. Visitation will be 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at First Church of the Open Bible, 2200 Beaver Ave in Des Moines. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the church with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Gloria was born February 10, 1932 in Des Moines to George W. and Elfa Rife. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines and a 1950 graduate of East High School. She was a retired medical secretary and a member of First Church of the Open Bible. Gloria was a devoted, generous and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was the bond that held her family together. Gloria found joy in celebrating holidays and special occasions with family and friends who will cherish the memories of family gatherings, lunch dates, and the special cards she always remembered to send. Most importantly, she was a woman of strong faith, looking forward to meeting her Lord and Savior.

Gloria is survived by her children, John (Shari) Olson, Kim (Dale) Thede, and Don (Marla) Olson; step-daughters, Karen (Gary) Mager and Kristine (Jim) Higdon; daughter-in-law, Melissa Olson; sisters, Alice A. (Russell) Cook, and Ginger D. (Glenn) Reece; sister-in-law, Darlene Rife; 13 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harry A. Barquist; son, Ron Olson; brother, Wayne E. Rife; granddaughter, Sheena Haven; and two great-grandsons.
