Service Details

Dr. John Joseph Albright, 82, formally of Shawano, WI, died peacefully from complications due to Parkinson’s disease on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in Waukee, Iowa. The funeral mass will be on Saturday, December 4, at 5:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Mercy Medical Center, 1116 6th Avenue, Des Moines, IA. Visitation will be held Saturday 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. Burial will take place at Fort Howard Cemetery in Green Bay, WI, at a later date.

John was born May 22, 1928 to Veronica (Maney) and William Albright in Racine, WI. He attended St. John Nepomuk elementary school and St. Catherine’s high school in Racine, WI. He won a scholarship to St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA, to become an English teacher. However, upon graduation, he was drafted into the army and placed in the medical corp. He later went on to medical school at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and became a physician.

In Madison, he met and married his beautiful wife, Sue, and they raised three sons and a daughter. He worked as a general practitioner first in Ajo, AZ, for five years, and then in Shawano, WI, for over 25 years. He enjoyed golfing, family vacations, camping and skiing trips with extended family, and watching sunsets. He was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Parish, the Lion’s Club, and the men’s golf league at the Shalagoco.

John is survived by his loving wife Sue; his son John (Michelle) of Richmond, VA; his son Joe (Brenda) of Coralville, IA; his daughter Julie (Mitch) Erickson of West Des Moines, IA; his son Bill (Hong) of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren Julian, Jacob, Ashley, Erica, Emily, Lizzy, John, and Andrew; sisters-in-law, Lois Albright and Nancy Albright-Fliess. He was preceded in death by his brother William, sister, Phyllis (Don) Renguette, and brother, David.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 321 S. Sawyer St., Shawano, WI 54166 or to a favorite charity.
