Service Details

Sherry Simpson, 61, went to be with her Lord on November 17, 2010, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Visitation was 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2010, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. Her funeral service was 10 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010, at Fellowship Community Church in Norwalk, with burial at Norwalk Cemetery.

Sherry was born October 16, 1949, to Robert Bemis and Mary (Bemis) Smithson. The oldest of eight, she was always at the top of the family “roll call.” She had a true servant’s heart for our Lord and Savior. She shared the gospel to many, and many saw God’s love through her acts of love and kindness. She was a virtuous wife (Proverbs 31), as her husband Skip knew first hand. Family, friends, and co-workers alike came to her for all types of advice. She was the “Dear Abbey” to everyone. She would do anything for anyone; give the coat off her back, or donate the last dollar from her purse. She was extremely devoted to her children and grandchildren, praying for them daily.

Sherry is survived by her loving husband Skip of 40 years; her children: Therman of Norwalk and Jason (Gin) Simpson of Cumming; her grandchildren: Chelsea and Dustin Simpson of Norwalk, Janzen, and Kylie Simpson of Cumming; her mother, Mary Smithson of Arkansas; her sisters: Debbie Crownover and Ronnie Kay (Harold) Erwin both of Arkansas; her brothers James (Marcia) Smith of Florida, and Daniel (Leona) Smith of Des Moines; her half brother, Knute (Tabitha) Bemis of North Carolina; her half sisters, Rashawn Bemis of Des Moines and Dana (Matt) Price of Illinois; her special sister-in-law Karole Griffin of Des Moines; her faithful four-legged companion, Sadie of the Doghouse which she shared from time to time with Skip; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of great friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Bemis.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Community Church, Norwalk, in loving memory of Sherry.
