Cecel Sparks, Sr., 85, died Monday, November 15, 2010, at his home in Des Moines. He was born December 15, 1924, in Exline, Iowa to Asa Elton and Rachel Ann (Lawson) Sparks.
He was Past Grandmaster of Odd Fellows, a Boy Scout leader for many years, receiving the George Meany Award.
Cecel is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Josephine; children, Joan (Roger) Hopper, Cecel “Butch” (Rose) Sparks, Jr., Patty (Woody) Collins, Kathy (Art) Reisinger, Curtis (Vicki) Sparks, and Mark (Diane) Sparks; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two great-grandsons; one granddaughter; parents; and sister, Olive Ford.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2010, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines. Family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Josephine and family,
So sorry to hear about Cecel's passing. Me and my family have great memories of spending time at your house and of Cecel driving the church bus. You both helped with ministering to all the Beebe kids...and we thank you for that!!!

Joan,
I am so sorry to hear of your Fathers passing. I know, no matter what a person says at this time it does not fill the hole left behind but remember we will all feel the loss also.
I wish I could be as supportive in your loss as you and your family was when Virginia passed but please know I have a very deep feeling for your loss.
I doubt that I will be able to make it to the funeral but know I will be with you in spirit.

Thank you for opening your hearts and your home and making me a part of the family. I have wonderful memories of family vacations, camping and being a part of the Mitigwa Indian dancers. Thank you... Our sympathy goes out to each and every one of the family members, and it looks like there are a lot. We have many fond memories of Cecel when we were attending North Acres Chapel, years ago, and he was such a good worker for the Lord. He will get many crowns in Heaven, for sure. We just want you all to know that we are praying for you, and that the Lord will give you all such peace and comfort, at this difficult time. We hope to see you all at the visitation, Lord willing.
