Jennie Cafferty, 95 years old, died November 14, 2010, of complications following a broken hip. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 19, 2010, at Bondurant Federated Church, 103 2nd Street SW, Bondurant, and the funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m.
Jennie was born December 16, 1914, in rural Maxwell. She worked for Montgomery Wards store and later moved to California where she became a department head. She moved back to Des Moines and met and married Lloyd Cafferty, the owner of Ames Nursery. They loved traveling the world together. They also loved to dance and said they danced around the world.
Jennie and Lloyd built the first building after the establishment of Iowa Arboretum near Madrid, Iowa where he acted as manager in its early years and many other gifts. He preceded her in death as did her parents and all of her siblings.
She is survived by her children, Virginia (John) Whitaker of Mitchellville, Dale Clark of Portland, OR, Jerry (Mary Lou) Clark of Prairie City; as well as step-children, Judi Peterson, Larry Good, Peggy Peterson, Dennis, Glen and Phil Cafferty. Jennie has 53 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Memorial Contribution may be made to Iowa Arboretum.

I want to convey my sympathies to your family in the loss of your dear mother. Lloyd Cafferty was my first cousin and I was always so glad to visit with them when they were residing at their home in Ames. They were so fortunate to have had many wonderful years together. I always admired your mother for the excellent care she gave to Lloyd prior to his passing. She was a wonderful person and I will always have many happy memories of her. Please know that your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

Virginia, We were saddened to hear of your Mother's passing. We know this is what she has been wanting. She had a long and full life. Now she is traveling that wonderful place in the Heavens.
