Edith Day Callahan, 100, passed away at Bright Kavanagh House November 12, 2010.
She was born October 3, 1910, in Enterprise, IA, to William and Blanche Mathis. Edith worked in the food service industry until her retirement in 1975. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with children.
Edith is survived by her grandchildren, Lee Ann Garcia, Kevin Gray, Denise Cluney, and Kim Cluney; several great-grandchildren; and many other extended relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Chuck Callahan; daughter, Barbara Frantz; son, Ronald Cluney; granddaughter, Christine Calligan; and grandson, Sheldon Gray.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Elkhart Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bright Kavanagh House.
Edith will be remembered for her sweet smile and greatly missed by all those who knew her.

Edith enjoyed attending the Mathis Reunions, and we enjoyed seeing her each year. I'm glad that I was able to be part of her 100th Birthday event.
