Service Details

Richard Angelo Righi, 82, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2010. Services will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines on Monday, November 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery. Casual dress appropriate because he loved to wear his jeans.

Richard was born in Carney, IA to Louis and Beatrice Righi. He graduated from Woodside High School, was drafted on November 10, 1950 and served as an army corporal in the Korean War. He retired from Wright Printing in July of 1993 and was a member of St. Ambrose Cathedral and VFW Post 9662.

He was the WII Bowling champion in competition with Nina, John and Irene. He loved Polish poker, golf, sports (especially IA and ISU football, loved tinkering with cars and was very mechanical. His garden was a joy and he specialized in tomato plants. Grandkid activities were of top priority.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lenora; daughter LeAnn (Charles) Phillips; sons, Doug (Linda) and Tim (Angie); grandchildren; Michael Terpstra, Stephanie Phillips, Luigi, Annie, Bailey, and Sydney Righi; his sister, Lena Contri; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra; his parents; his brother Don and his sister Mary.
