Darrell Murphy, 73, went home October 28, 2010, at Taylor House Hospice from cancer.
Darrell was born September 15, 1937, in Redding, IA to Olin “Pat” and Emma Murphy. His mother passed away when he was young and his step-mother, Gladys played a vital role in his upbringing. Darrell graduated from Redding High School and served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Mercy Properties as a maintenance engineer. His greatest love was his family. He was very proud of his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them and attending their activities. He had a special bond with his son-in-law Kirby and loved him like a son. Darrell had a great sense of humor and wit. He attended Heartland Assembly of God Church and was a member of the Capitol City Moose Lodge.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Anna; daughter, Juli (Kirby) Putzier; grandchildren, Jessica and Justin Putzier and John Murphy; brother, Doyle Murphy; and his sisters, Dorothy Barber and Marlene Keller. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Connie; son, Jesse; and his brothers, Harold and Bob.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

I am sorry for the loss of Darrell Murphy. While our relationship was that of acquaintance, our membership in the Moose made us fraternal brothers. May you draw upon fond memories for years to come, and may Darrell rest in peace for eternity.

Anna and family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn the loss of Darrell. Even though we didn't know him for a long time, we are very happy to have had him in our lives the past few years. He was a wonderful, caring person and he will be missed.
