Service Details

Cecil H. Thornburg, Sr. passed from this life on October 25, 2010. He was born February 6, 1919.

Cecil had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, but you would never know it, the way he rode around town on his motorized wheelchair. He was 91 years old and fiercely independent. Even facing days with pain, he still had enough energy to cut lawns. He was a marvel and an inspiration. He never let his illness get him down. He did things his way!

He was a decorated World War II veteran and was extremely proud of his service in the Army and loved to tell stories about his experiences while fighting overseas.

Left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Donna Ray; his sons, Cecil Thornburg, Jr., Duane Thornburg, Doug (Mary) Thornburg, George (Carol) Thornburg and Frank Thornburg. He is also survived by his stepson, Kenneth (Helen) Sargent; step-daughter, Darlene (Bob) Fleming; sisters, Darlene Faux, Evelyn (Jack) Hitchcock, and Wanda (Al) Bloodgood; brothers, Lester (Earleen) and Merl (Joan); numerous grandchildren; and many, many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lucille; second wife, Iva Mae; daughter, Debbie; and his four brothers, Ray, Roy, Wayne, and Dean.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2010, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
