Kathryn Louise Eslinger

Kathryn (Kathy) Louise Eslinger passed from this life on October 25, 2010 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, Iowa, at the age of 89.

Kathryn was born to John and Mildred (Boyd) Shaw on March 24, 1921 in Ladd, Illinois. Her father, John, passed away when Kathryn was five years old. Her mother later married William Schafer who raised Kathryn and her sisters as his own. The family moved to Davenport, Iowa, where she spent the remainder of her childhood.

Kathryn married Elva Eslinger, August 15, 1942 in Lancaster, Missouri. They spent the early part of their marriage in Davenport before moving to the Des Moines area in 1953. Elva passed away in 1969. Kathryn spent most of her working career as a certified nursing assistant working for the Polk County Home and Calvin Community. She loved to dance, do crafts and sew. She was the happiest when she had a fishing pole in her hand and her dog, Pepsi, beside her.

Kathryn is survived by her children, Gary (Pam) of Hoschton, Georgia and Deborah (David) Baccus of Minburn, Iowa; sister, Mary Jane Reed, of Moline, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mildred; her step-father, William Schafer; her husband, Elva; her sister, Marjorie; her daughter, Sandra; her son, Michel and her grandson, Matthew.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines. Graveside burial services will be held Friday, October 29 at Glendale Cemetery at 11 a.m.
