Joyce Koroch

Joyce F. Koroch, 84, died Friday, October 22, 2010, at the Taylor House of Des Moines due to complications from ovarian cancer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at the Westkirk Presbyterian Church, 2700 Colby Woods Drive, Urbandale, Iowa, with burial to follow at the Masonic Cemetery.

Joyce was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa on April 27, 1926, but lived in Davenport until 1944. She attended Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa. August 9, 1947, she married the love of her life, Don Koroch, and they moved to Des Moines in 1949.

Joyce worked for the Des Moines Public Schools for 20 years as an elementary school secretary, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Chi Omega, West Des Moines Women’s Club Shrine Ladies, and a founding member of Westkirk Presbyterian Church.

Joyce is survived by her children, Steven (Pat) Koroch of Des Moines, Cathy (Bob) Haedt of Roscoe, Illinois, Carol (Blake) Sparland of Runnells, and Debbie Renken of Boca Raton, Florida; seven grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; brother, John (Linda) Greenlee of Davenport, and sister, Janet Greenlee of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Don Koroch; her parents, Charles and Alma (Burkhart) Greenlee, and her son, Robert Koroch.

The family will greet friends from 6:00–8:00 p.m. Monday, October 25, 2010, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House, the American Diabetes Association, or the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Iowa in loving memory of Joyce Koroch.
