Harold Francis Knight

Harold Francis Knight, 78 of Mesa, AZ formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, went home to be with our Lord on October 20, 2010. Harold was born to Charles and Emma Knight on May 12, 1932, in Blakesburg, IA. He graduated from East High School, where he met his wife, Barbara L. (Fite) Knight and they were married for 58 years. He was very proud to have been a Marine and did his duty by serving in the Korean War. He continued his lifetime of service proudly as a Des Moines Firefighter for 35 years. Harold was a man of honor, integrity and few words, but let those close to his heart know he loved them very much.
He is survived by his son Gary (Dina) Knight of Gilbert, AZ, daughters, Teri (Nick) Fair of Gilbert, AZ and Debra (Dan) Bowers of Colorado Springs, CO. He was lovingly called Papa by his five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a step grandson and his wife and two step great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Gilroy of Des Moines, IA and Willa Little of Hemet, CA; brothers-in-law, Donald (Donna) Fite of Pleasant Hill, IA and Jack McCaughey of Des Moines, IA; and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Thursday October 28, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 N W 60th Avenue, Des Moines, IA. Funeral services will be held Friday October 29, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to one of the following organizations: Des Moines Firefighters Honor Guard; Iowa Chapter of American Parkinson’s Disease Association Inc., P.O. Box 507, Waukee, IA 50263 or the American Cancer Society.
