Service Details

Albert Eugene Rehor, 91, of Altoona, died Monday, March 19, at the Mitchell Care Center in Mitchellville. There will be a graveside service Friday, March 23 at 10 AM at the Altoona Cemetery prior to the 11 AM Funeral Service at the Altoona Christian Church. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 5-8 PM at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th St. S.W.
Born June 11, 1915 in Melcher, Iowa to Louie & Ethel (Woods) Rehor. He grew up in Melcher, and graduated from Melcher High School in 1933. After graduation he worked in the coal mines until 1936, at which time he moved to Los Angeles, California. After returning to the Des Moines area and working for awhile, he enlisted in the military in 1942 and served with the 7th Air Force in the Pacific until after the war. He returned to the service for the Korean War in the Army and was stationed with the General Headquarters in Tokyo. After his discharge from the service, Albert worked at American Federal in Des Moines, as a Loan Officer, from 1946 to 1978. Albert was a member of the Altoona Christian Church, a 62 year Mason of King David Lodge, a DeMolay Dad and was awarded the Legion of Honor and Cross of Honor. He was also a member of the Altoona American Legion Post, and Past President of Altoona Lion’s Club. He was awarded the Warren Coleman Honorary Award from the Iowa Lion’s Foundation and was awarded the Good Neighbor of the Year Award in 1981, Altoona. He was also awarded the Chamber of Commerce “Outstanding Citizen Award” in 2000. Albert was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling with his wife.
Albert is survived by his wife Verneita of 61 years, and two children, Deb (Ron) Brown of Fredericksburg, Craig (Ronda) Rehor of Ankeny. Five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. Also surviving are two brothers, Rolland (Helen) Rehor of Nevada, Lewis (Marian) Rehor of Minneapolis, MN. And one sister, Phyllis (Tom) Murphy of Altoona, several nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. He very much loved all his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one nephew.
