Florence Nelson

Florence I. Nelson, 95, passed away October 19, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center.

Florence was born December 28, 1914, in Des Moines to Frank and Scienie Pratt. She was a lifelong resident of Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1932. Florence worked as a payroll clerk for Iowa Concrete Block Co. until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and Eastgate Eastern Star. Florence enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making afghans for her family.

Florence is survived by her sons, Don W. (Betty) Nelson and Fred R. (Myrna) Nelson; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Donald F. Nelson.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2010, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. Friday at the Masonic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.
