Carol E. Kearney, 76, passed away in his sleep on Sunday, October 17, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Carol was born on October 25, 1933, to L.T. and Darlene Kearney.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 22, 2010, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2010.
Carol worked for Super Value Warehouse as a Union Local 147 truck driver for 45 years until he retired.
Carol is survived by his wife Janice; sons Steve Kearney (Shawn Regenold), Scott Kearney (Mary Flanagan), Dean Hawxby (Deb Tesson), Tim Hawxby (Karla Pelkey), Richard (Holly) Hawxby; daughter Valarie (Fred) Christiansen; brothers Darrell Kearney (Karen), Dick Kearney (Jeane); sister Charlotte Richman (Don) and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents L.T. and Darlene, sister Charlene, and brother Leland.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff with Iowa Health Home Care and Hospice for the wonderful care they provided. Special thanks to Lisa and Jennifer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Janice and family.....I am Carol's cousin. I didn't know him well . I am a lot younger so he was grown when I was little therefore never got to know him. Dick called me today to let me know..I am very sorry for your loss. You and your family will be in my prayers. Love, Kathy Hee

We were most saddened to hear of Carol's death. We won't be able to come to Des Moines, but we are with you in spirit and love. We have hope for Carol in his new life in heaven, where there is no more suffering and sickness and where he will be reunited with his parents, Leland, and Charlene, as well as others who have gone before. Bless and comfort all of the family and friends, particularly his wife Janice and his children, and all whose who are missing him here on earth, including his caregivers in hospice.
