Service Details

Jamie T. Smith passed away Friday, October 15, 2010, following an extended illness. Her request for cremation will be honored.

Jamie was born August 19, 1939 in Rochester, New York to Carl and Violet Battoe. At a young age, Jamie moved to Des Moines where she attended St. Ambrose and St. Joseph Academy Catholic Schools.

In 1956, Jamie married Roland F. Smith. From that union, she was blessed with four children. While the children were attending St. Anthony School Jamie volunteered many hours assisting teachers and coaching the St. Anthony cheerleaders. Jamie was also a Girl Scout Leader.

Holidays with her family were very important. Jamie spent a lot of time in her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved to travel; business trips with her husband and trips to South Carolina with her daughters and granddaughters. The family’s first trip to Florida was in 1964 and she managed to return every year thereafter.

Jamie worked for Younkers and Richman Gordmans prior to her illness. She had a small cleaning business, where she became very close to the people she served. When asked if it was necessary for her to work, she would smile and say, “sure, to support my expensive habits; traveling and expensive clothing.”

Jamie is survived by her husband Roland”Smitty”; daughters, Kim Pueschel, Kelly (Tim) Reams and Keely (Denny) Pueschel; brother, John Battoe; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Kristian Smith.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October, 19, 2010, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road.
