Kyle Matthew Welch, 23, was born August 29, 1987 in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Friday, October 8, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at St. Francis of Assisi, 7075 Ashworth Road in West Des Moines, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, with a vigil service to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Kyle was a country boy at heart and loved the outdoors. One of his favorite activities was hunting with his dog Bo. He was a senior at UNI and worked for Wonderbread.
His memory will be cherished by his parents, Craig and Lisa Welch and Jim Grill; brothers, Michael Welch, AJ Grill, Tanner Grill and Drew Grill; grandparents, Jim and Geri Welch, Wayne and Irene Wasson, Tino and Judy D’Iapico and John and Jan Dittmar and Denny Grill; aunts, uncles, cousins, his dog, Bo and other loving relatives and many wonderful friends. Kyle was preceded in death by his mother, Ann Grill.

On the day Matt died,we were coming into town on University Ave.when traffic was moving very slowly and police had a lane was blocked off. We knew something terrible had happened because a pole had been broken. We discovered later what had happened there.
I missed the obituary in the Courier and I just decided to look for it tonight online and saw his picture for the first time.
I didn't know Matt but it still haunts me and every time I go past the place where he died, I look at the cross and say his full name "Kyle Matthew Welch". I have to think that he must have been a deer hunter because of the antlers and my sons are hunters too, and I am so thankful to still have them here. I can't imagine the pain you must be feeling. I am so sorry for your loss.

My deepest condolences on your loss. I happened to come across a picture of your son and believe he is someone I once met while attending Drake University. Only, the person I knew went by the name "Jobi". Is this him?
My sincere apologies if this message comes across as insensitive, but I was really troubled to see a familiar face in an obituary.
