My deepest sympathies to Dave's family. I worked for Dave while umpiring numerous state baseball tournaments in Marshalltown. We had a lot of fun and many laughs regarding those games with his many friends and collegues during those tourneys.
He was a true professional during those tourneys. It was a pleasure to work with Dave in bringing his love for baseball to the forefront during those years.
What a great guy who will be missed by this old ump and many more like us.

Dave was an outstanding individual and IHSAA administrator. He was recognized in Iowa and NFHS for his input into the sports that he administrated for the Boys Association, especially in wrestling. Dave was also an outstanding role model for many students, coaches, and administrators. He will be missed by many.

Hi Kay: I am writing to you from Milwaukee. Kathy and I came up on Friday to visit Jackson, Julie & Ruthie. When we arrived I received a message from the IHSAA that Dave had passed away. I am so sorry. Please know that Kathy and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We will be staying in Milwaukee through Tuesday so we will not be able to attend Dave's services at Hope tomorrow. I know they will have an outstanding service for him. Dave was a wonderful person and I certainly enjoyed working with him during our time together at the IHSAA. He was an outstanding administrator; wrestlers, baseball players and Iowa high school students in general benefited from his expertise. We will be praying for you and your family as you grieve for your husband, father and grandpa. My Best to you always. Jack

My deepest sympathy to the Harty family. I met Dave when I was a freshman in high school back in 1954. Coming from a country school I didn't really know what wrestling was. Dave was going to Ellsworth and he would come down to the old Central School and work out with us kids. I really appreciated it and am sure a lot of other kids did thru his career. Thanks, Dave

Mrs. Harty and family,
I am so sorry to hear about Coach Harty. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Coach Harty was such a competitor--we all benefited from his leadership...whether in the classroom or in athletics I often think back to the sign in the wrestling room he inscribed in large letters..."winners never quit and quitters never win"...and that was in fourth grade. Anyone who knew Coach Harty understands how much he will be missed.
