Jack G. Mears

Jack G. Mears, 79, passed away October 5, 2010 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.

Jack was born March 25, 1931 in Osceola, IA to Fred and Gertrude Mears. He retired from AMF Manufacturing in 1993 where he was a welder for 17 years. After retirement, Jack went on to work for Goodwill and he was a wonderful chef. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and enjoyed reading, fishing, playing Pokeno and watching Westerns. His family and many friends will remember him for his heart of gold and unconditional love. First and foremost, Jack was a devoted family man and his children will cherish the memories of their many family picnics at Lake Aquabie, Sunday afternoon drives and family gatherings with a good game of cards or spoons. He also loved animals, especially his cat Harry.

Jack is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marie; children, Kevin (Carolyn) Mears, Dennis Mears, Jean Vigon, Trudy (Robert) Miller and Edward (Cathy) Mears; sisters, Wanda Songer and Fredricka Coleman; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many other extended relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2010 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 607 High Street, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday with the Rosary recited at 6 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
