George A. Nelson, 93, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 30, 2010. He was born December 3, 1916 in Des Moines to Oscar and Dora Nelson.
He worked for John Deere for 39 years until his retirement in 1975. George was a member of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church and Auburn Masonic Lodge #592. He enjoyed collecting and repairing clocks. George and Rosetta spent many winters in Arizona and Florida.
George is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Rosetta; son, Donald (Sandra) Nelson; grandchildren, Debra Nelson and Ron Nelson; great-grandchildren, Alex and Matt Nelson. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Roy Nelson; and one sister, Ethel Curry.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Friends may visit with family from 6-8 p.m., Friday, October 1, 2010, at the funeral home.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Highland Park Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Central Iowa in loving memory of George.

George and Rose are good friends from country cousins in Mesa Az
We spent a lot of years near them in Mesa and will miss them.
WE are very sorry for your loss. Sorry we could not make it to the funeral but
Marcy has cancer right now and is having chemotherpy done this week.

I have been a long-time friend, co-worker of George for over 60 years and during that time my respect for him has grown. He was always a natural, well-liked leader. I consider George to be a John Deere Des Moines Works "Icon."
I join with his many friends, relatives and especially the Arizona John Deere Lunch Bunch in sending our condolences to George's family. He will be missed by all.
