William Akers

William “Billy” J. Akers, 68, of Des Moines died on Sunday, March 18, 2007 at his home in Runnells from cancer. He was cremated and a memorial service will be at 10:30 Wednesday at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. The family will greet friends following the service.
Billy was a mechanic since he was in high school, an avid outdoorsman and a member of the Wheel Jockey’s Association and the Road Knights.
He is survived by his sons Tony (Marina) Burke of Runnells, Bill (Erica) Burke of Prescott, Arizona, Arnold “Jay” (Christine) Akers of Pasadena, California, John Akers of Sacramento, California and Conway Akers of Florida, his brothers Thomas (Lois) Akers of Des Moines and Robert Akers of Leander, Texas, his sisters Catherine (John) Ponzeline of Des Moines and Nancy Burton of Des Moines, twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Hospice.
