Kay Frances Gillard daughter of Matthew and Eva McGee was born October 5, 1940 in Texas. Kay passed from this life on September 28th 2010 at 69 years of age.

Kay graduated from Chariton High School in 1959 and married Lawrence Gillard and to this reunion they had 4 children Martin, Marcia, Ann & John. Kay lived her life north of Bevington on an acreage with her family until the death of her husband Lawrence, he passed away in 1989, after his death Kay moved to Des Moines to be closer to her job.

Kay worked at Iowa Lutheran Hospital until she retired. She was currently living at Granger Nursing and Rehabilitation. Kay enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping, playing Bingo with her friends at Granger, helping others, and will be remembered for her love of jewelry and selling Avon. She was an avid sports lover, including watching her kids and grandkids play, and loved the Iowa Hawkeyes!

Those relatives who preceded her in death were her parents Matthew and Eva McGee; husband, Lawrence Gillard; beloved brother Danny McGee, and a very special Uncle Abe and Aunt Mildred Apgar.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Marty (Laurie) Gillard of Norwalk; daughter Marica (Steve) Vasey of Truro; daughter, Ann (Jerry Jr.) Hypes of Des Moines; son, John (Katie) Gillard, Sr., of Earlham; granddaughter Deanna (Ryan) Morris of New Virginia; grandsons Dennis (Heather Neal) Vasey of Truro, Jamie (Danny) Brown of Des Moines, Chris Gillard of Des Moines, John, Jr., Lance, and Lucas, and Laney Gillard of Earlham; great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Kelsey Morris, Coltin Vasey, and Blake and Jayden Brown; brother Jerry (Judy) McGee of Johnston; cousin Kenny (Carol) Apgar; and other relatives and many friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 1, 2010, beginning at 4 PM, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street in Des Moines. Visitation will occur two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow on Saturday, October 2, 2010, at 11 AM at the Chariton Cemetery in Chariton, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be directed toward Granger Nursing and Rehab in loving memory of Kay.
