Dr. Richard Fuller, 80, passed away September 20, 2010 of heart failure.
Richard was born September 17, 1930 in Des Moines to Charles and Emma (Dart) Fuller. He graduated from East High School in 1948 and went on to graduate from Grand View College, Drake University and University of Iowa Dental School. Following U of I Dental School, he served in the U.S. Army for two years. Upon returning to Des Moines he began practicing dentistry and established his own practice in 1963. He remained in practice for 50 years. Richard was a huge supporter of East High Athletics and was an avid Hawkeye Football fan.
Richard is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sharon; daughter, Karen (Kevin) Edwards and her family, Heath, Ross and Kelsey; son, Rick Fuller; son, Dr. Steven (Beth) Fuller and his family, Austin, Samuel, Rebekah and Olivia; and daughter, Jennifer Fuller and her family, Savanna and Caleb; and great-granddaughter, Aubrey. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Grant Park Christian Church, 2440 Capitol Avenue, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to East High School or Shriners Children's Hospitals.

Jo and I send our most heart felt sympathies to all the family in this great loss. 'Dick' and I were awfully good friends in the high school period of our lives.
Dr. Richard Fuller was our dentist for years, he was also a friend.

please accept my condolences on the passing of your dad. he and your mom were always so gracious to open their home to all the rag-tag passel of neighborhood kids. he was such an avid supporter of the east side swim club and high school swim teams; i don't think i ever went to a meet when he wasn't there - keeping time, passing out oranges, doing something to encourage not just his kids but everyone on the team. you and your families are in my thoughts as you search for strength to get you through this difficult time.

Though I only knew him a short while - it seems like I knew him an eternity. He just had away of making you feel WELCOME and like you belonged especially if you were an EAST HIGH SCARLET! :) Through that gruf voice he was a big ole teddy bear and our family truly loved him. Alexis (my daughter) referred to him as Grandpa Doc, and he fondly referred to her as one of those Roosevelt Rosies! Your family was truly blessed to have him for so many years, and what a blessing it is that you shared him with so many people. Our prayers for eternity go out to you and your family!

So sorry about Dick, I wish i could be there in person to express my sorrow to you all. Always hard to lose members of the Kelsy family. He was such a good supporter of the GVC Vikings and the EAST SIDE. All the Bells send their love and prayers.

Dear Fuller Family,
I was shocked to hear the news of your fathers passing on Monday evening, I have tried to contact my dear friend Steven several times. I had the good fortune of visiting with Doc on Friday evening at the EHS football game. He was sporting his red and black proudly and cheering for his beloved Scarlets! I had no idea that it was his birthday but it was great to reminisce with him. We talked about carpooling to swim practices and to Iowa City, of bowl games and GPCC. You are all in my thoughts and prayers and please know how lucky I feel to have known your Dad and to have had the honor of being a recipient of his friendship. May God be with you all in this very difficult time and know how very much he will be missed! With my deepest sympathy. Love to each of you Shari "Bear"
