Robert McCombs, Sr., 91, died Monday, September 20, 2010, at Granger Nursing and Rehabilitation in Granger, Iowa. He was born February 25, 1919, in Albia to Lillie and Arthur McCombs. Robert served in the US Navy. He worked for John Deere and company. Robert loved to spend time with his family. He liked to fish, hunt and loved mushroom hunting.
Robert is survived by his brother, Albert (Ruby) McCombs; son, Robert (Loraine) McCombs, Jr.; daughter, Shirley Reynolds; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita McCombs; three brothers, Lester, Glen and Leo McCombs; two sisters, Dorthey Vance and Gladys Petterson; and one great-granddaughter, Logan.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 25, 2010, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Ankeny Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 24, 2010, at the funeral home.

I worked at Granger, and took care of Robert. He is a very kind and lovable peron. I always talked with him about fishing I knew he liked that. My prayers are with you and your family. He will truly be missed. I will never forget my big teddy bear. I always called him that.

I worked at Granger and had the honor of meeting Mr. McCombs, he and I had visits and I enjoyed talking with him. So sorrry to hear of his passing. He lived a good life and made the most of each day. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
