John Turchi

Gian Carlo “John” Turchi, 80, of Des Moines, died at the Genesis Senior Living Center on September 18, 2010 after a long illness. He was born in L’Aqua, Italy and moved to America when he was 24 years old. John served for one and a half years in the Italian Army. He worked as a laborer for Ringland-Johnson-Crowley Co., and then RR Donnelley Printing Co. for 13 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Vittoria Lodge. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and grew one of the best gardens on the south side.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 22nd at 10:00 am with burial at Glendale Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home.

John was preceded in death by his parents Ida & Leonello Turchi and his first wife, Parisina. He is survived by his wife, Wanda; his daughter, Carla ( Todd ) Murray; his two step-daughters, Toni Fontanini and Cheryl Cummins; his step-son, Jim Fontanini; his brother, Giuliano (Anna) Turchi of Italy; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two nephews and one niece.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ the King Catholic Church Building Fund.
