Charles L. Callahan, Jr., AIA, CSI, CDT, age 65, died September 13th, 2010 in Des Moines, surrounded by family and friends.

Chuck was born in Long Beach, California September 4, 1945. He graduated from Carlisle High School and Dunwoody Industrial Institute, served in the U.S. Army (Cam Rahn Bay, Viet Nam, 35th Group Engineers). He practiced architecture for many years, most recently working with Brooks Borg Skiles architectural firm where he continued to work until his death.

Chuck loved to sing and was active in the choir and Men’s Chorus at Carlisle United Methodist Church. He was instrumental in promoting the campership program at the church. He first served on the Camp Wesley Woods board followed by 20 years of service with the Board of Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Chuck enjoyed bike riding, participating several times in RAGBRAI and he especially enjoyed fishing with family and friends in Northern Minnesota and Colorado.

Chuck is survived by wife Sandra (See) Callahan, daughter Heather (Callahan) Knox (husband, Curtis Knox), granddaughter Olivia, brothers (Bill, Terry, Nathan) and sister (Sylvia Arnold).

Visitation: Thursday, September 16, 5-7 pm, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, Des Moines. Service: Friday, September 17, 1 pm, Carlisle United Methodist Church, Carlisle, Iowa.
