Frank S. Farao, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 3, 2010 at Fountain West Health Care Center in West Des Moines. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Avenue in West Des Moines, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00–7:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
Frank was born March 3, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa to Lucia and Anthony Farao. He graduated from North High School. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and volunteered for many of their activities over the years. He also was an avid golfer, playing in tournaments throughout the Midwest. Frank and his wife of 62 years, Rose, spent several winters enjoying the Florida climate and making numerous friends there.
In 1962, Frank, with partners Dante and Bruno Fresco and Sam Soda, formed the Allied Wholesale Meats Company. The partners ran a very successful business for many years before retiring in January of 1987.
Frank is survived by his children, Annette Bair, and Anthony (Veronica) Farao; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose; son, Frank Farao Jr.; sister, Rose; brother, Joe; son-in-law, William "Larry" Bair; and nephew, Mark Juliano.

Dear Family, I'm so sorry for your lose. I only knew your father a short time, I was in HyVee one day looking for a certain cut of meat to make something (I can't remember what it was). Your father with his beautiful smile asked if he could help. He told me about his former meat business and helped me figure out exactally what I needed. After that we became fast friends. I tried to make a point of going in on fridays because I knew that he would be there. We would talk about golf, our kids and ofcourse what was for dinner. He mentioned both of his beautiful children often but always had a twinkle in his eye when he talked about Rose. I will miss our conversations at the counter, your father was a very sweet sweet man.

I'm so very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Farao. My family lived across the street from Mr. and Mrs. Farao on Oxford Street until I was seven years old. (We were 4129 Oxford.)My mom and dad were Ronald and Opal Grandfield. Mom is still alive and at Bishop Drumm Care Center.I was Frankie's age. Your family and loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers.
