Diana Lee (Burgess) Brown, the daughter of John Albert and Geneva Kay (Grim) Burgess, was born on February 2, 1952, in Des Moines. Diana died on September 2, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents; nephew, Tommy Stewert; brother-in-law, Tom Stewert; and many aunts and uncles.

Diana lived most of her life in Jasper Co. IA on the family acreage in rural Baxter, in 2009 moved back to Colfax, IA. Diana was united in marriage to Charles Robert Brown on May 31, 1969, in Des Moines.

Diana had worked for Bankers Trust and UPS in Des Moines. Disabled in 1989, Diana then opened her ceramic shop in Newton, IA, due to health issues in 2002 her shop closed, never giving up due to her disabilities Diana continued to work on her ceramic projects and other craft projects, Diana enjoyed traveling to Texas, camping, fishing, working in her flower gardens, bird watching, she devoted most of her time to her four grandchildren. Diana was a member of the Colfax Christian Church, The Degree of Pocahontas, the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Those left to honor Diana’s memory include her husband of 41 years, Charles “Charley” Brown; daughters, Christina (Brown) Crise and her husband, Jeff of Newton, IA and Lori (Brown) Yoakum and husband, Kelly, of Colfax, IA; grandchildren, Josh Crise, Amanda Crise, Kristen Yoakum and Zachary Yoakum; brothers, John Burgess and his wife, Terry of Indianola,IA, Butch Burgess and his wife, Kelly of Des Moines and Melvin Burgess and his wife, Sheri of West Des Moines; sisters, Shirley Messer, Katherine Burgess and Janet (Burgess) Burns all of Des Moines; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 5, 2010 at the Colfax Christian Church followed by burial at the Colfax Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
