Esmer Austin (E.A.) Garnett

E.A. Garnett, 77, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family after a 9 month battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, September 4th at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

E.A. was born January 25, 1933 in Graves County, KY to Esmer Austin Garnett Sr. and Orean Garnett. He graduated from Paducah Tilghman in 1952 and spent 4 years in the Navy during the Korean War from 1952 – 1956. He worked for 40 years in airline ground operations with Braniff from 1956–1982, American Airline from 1983–1996, and after retirement E.A. worked part time at Fed Ex Express from 1999–2009.

E.A. is survived by his wife, Ilene F. Garnett of Des Monies; son, J. David Garnett of Dover, OH; daughter, Janice O. (Alan) Russell of Des Moines; granddaughter, Jessica A. Thomas of Des Moines; sister Euva Farris, of Bellville, IL; sister-in-law, Hazel Garnett of Paducah, KY and brother-in-law, Joe Putz of Bolingbrook, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Louzelle Holdman, Euelene Puckett, Gene Garnett, Bill Garnett and Donna Putz.
